The era of short changing the Government and the people of the State has been said to be over, as Ogun State Government ordered revocation of licenses of two illegal Timber dealers and Forest operators in Area J4 Forest reserve.
The State Commissioner for Forestry, Engr. Tunji Akinosi gave the order while addressing the State branch of Timber Dealers Association of Nigeria, Ijebu North at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, adding that the present administration was poised to bring sanity to the State’s Forestry.
Akinosi noted that the prince Dapo Abiodun led Government’s mandate was to set agenda that would enhance Public Private Partnership, which he said was fundamental to the economic growth of the State, adding that this administration would not tolerate any illegality or injustice.
He urged stakeholders, including staff of the Ministry to cooperate with Government for the betterment of the State, stressing that ban on activities in the forest reserves remains sacrosanct.
In his remark, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Lateef Benson, also noted that the ban on State’s reserve was binding, as offenders would be sanctioned appropriately.
Also speaking, Mrs. Aishat Sulaiman, who spoke on behalf of the Association, commended the Commissioner for his immediate intervention on issues bothering members of the Association, pledging their unalloyed support towards achieving government’s objectives on afforestation.
