The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has reinstated the two teachers, Mr. Dare Ilekoya, former Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and Mr. Olusanjo Majekodunmi sacked by the immediate past administration in the State.
Speaking during the celebration of the 2019 World Teachers Day, tagged “Young Teachers: The Future of the profession”, held at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, the Governor said education was a key element in nation building and that teachers are the greatest assets of any nation.
He charged the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) and others to work together in unity, saying teachers are the most essential in effecting positive change and development in the society.
In her address, the Special Adviser, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, commended the teachers for their diligence in the discharge of duties, re-awakening their consciousness to the importance of their profession to nation building and appealed to educators to collaborate with government to ensure it delivered on its vision for the sector.
Also speaking at the event, the State Chairman, (NUT) Comrade Titilope Adebanjo gave kudos to the Governor for the prompt attention accorded the education sector within the few months in office, appreciating the approval of teachers’ 2016 and 2017 promotions.
On his part, the State Chairman of (ASUSS) Comrade Akeem Lasisi also commended the
present administration’s effort at ensuring workers salaries were paid as and when due.
Comrade Lasisi disclosed that Ogun State clinched four out of the fifteen awards in this year’s National Presidential Teachers and Students Excellence Award in Abuja, congratulating the four awardees, Baptist Boys High School, (Snr) Abeokuta, Adenrele High School (Jnr) Ifo Mayflower School Ikenne (Snr) and Varsity Children Grammar School, Ijebu Ode
