ABEOKUTA – Engineer Olawonyin Akintunde, the Ogun State Chairman of Green Party of Nigeria (GPN), said the party had confirmed its grassroots support and certain of victory in 2019 general elections in the state.
Engr. Olawonyin in Abeokuta on Sunday said that the party, currently going round the state on consultation tour, was satisfied with the level of acceptance at the grassroots.
He said this was particularly so in the case of the party’s candidates from Governorship to House of Assembly.
“We have visited over 10 local government areas of the state for consultation led by our governorship candidate, Abayomi Odunowo.
He said reception accorded the party showed that the people were yearning for change of government in the state, through democratic process.
He said fillers from the people also showed the APC government “has failed in its promise to complete ongoing projects.”
According to him, the state government has not been able to resuscitate popular empowerment programmes for the youths like OGUNGRAD”.
Olawonyin said the governorship candidate of the party, from Ogun East Senatorial District, Otunba Abayomi Odunowo, was committed to reviving such popular programmes.
“As you know, our governorship candidate is a son of the soil, if elected, will revive all those popular programmes and more.
“People at the grassroots are excited about that, knowing fully well that this time around the person brought to them will not betray them.”
The party chairman said the party had also fielded popular candidates Ogun East Senatorial District and Ogun Central, House of Representatives and House of Assembly seats in the state.
He also said that the party had taken steps to ensure that there was no rigging to rob it of its expected victory in all the elections in state.
