IDOGO RESIDENTS APPLAUD DAPO ABIODUN ON AGRIC INTEGRATION PROGRAMMES

Residents of Idogo, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State will continue to support the present administration’s agricultural intervention programmes which are geared towards food security, job creation and industrialisation.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina said this during a meeting at Idogo Town Hall with traditional rulers, representing 33 towns and villages in the area, as well as some stakeholders in agriculture, saying Governor Dapo Abiodun’s agricultural drive was meant to strengthen small holder farmers across the State through distribution of farming materials palliative, to improve farming activities and assist interested youths on mechanised farming.

Dr. Odedina stated that government was poised at supporting farmers in the areas of linkage to genuine agricultural investors, enhance use of bio-fortified crops for health and financial benefits, as well as linkage to input and credit, among others.

‘’Government recently launched the year 2020 planting season by linking 3,500 cassava farmers to land, inputs, credits, herbicides, planting materials palliative for over 40,000 small holder farmers and other benefits, including the recent inputs distribution for over 1,600 rice farmers across the State.

‘’I also want to use this medium to sensitise farmers about the in-coming opportunities for cattle, oil palm, cocoa and aquaculture and government has been engaging communities to release more lands for youth-focused programmes, especially Anchor Borrowers Programme. I am happy with your show of love for the Governor’s agricultural agenda”, he said.

Responding, Coordinator, Anago Farmers’ Association, Olokuta Itoro Zone, Prince Olufemi Abel, remarked that Government’s zeal to revive agriculture was unprecedented, pledging the communities’ readiness to release hectares of land for government to execute its Anchor Borrowers’ Programme in the Area.

Also speaking, Baale of Fagbohun Village, Chief Adebayo Fagbohun, commended government for initiating various youth empowerment programmes through agriculture, appealing that the elders should not be sidelined in the scheme of things.

 The team thereafter paid a courtesy visit to the Onidogo of Idogo Land, Oba Saheed Adewale, who after praying for the success of the present administration, led them to assess Yewa River for aquaculture advantages.

Other Government functionaries at the meeting were; the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Dotun Sorunke, Director of Fisheries, Victoria Ojelade, Director, Research and Training, Ogun State Agricultural Development Programme (OGADEP), Olalekan Temowo, among others.
