The Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo has assured of government’s readiness to harness more tourism potentials in the State, in order to increase its Internally Generated Revenue, as well as create more employment opportunities for the teeming youth.
Dr. Taiwo who gave this assurance during a tour of the Olumo Rock Tourist Complex, Ikija, Abeokuta, said priority would be given to infrastructural development of the complex, to make it more attractive to intending investors and tourists.
According to him, ‘’lots of natural resources abound, waiting to be harnessed to boost the Gross Domestic Product of the State’’, adding that the present administration had created an enabling environment for investment to thrive, thereby placing the State at a vantage position on the world map.
“If we harness all these resources, they could be used to bring influx of investors into the State, just like some countries of the world use them as major source of revenue”, he said.
The Commissioner commended the staffers of the Complex for their diligence and commitment to work, assuring of regular trainings to enhance their competence on the job.
“When you go on tourist visit to other countries, like Jerusalem for instance, the way their tour guys educate you, will make you feel the event is happening right in front of you and you will wish for more visit”, Taiwo remarked.
Other sites visited in Abeokuta were; the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Oke-Mosan, the tomb of the first Iyalode of Egbaland, late Madam Efunroye Tinubu at Iberekodo, the house of the Egunmagaji of Egbaland, Late Chief Alhaji Ayinla Omowura at Itoko, Kuti Heritage Museum, Nepa Road, the first Church in Nigeria, St Peters Cathedral Ake, among others.
