The JAMB Official, who said a snake swallowed scratch cards proceeds, now claims that her boss was the actual human snake that swallowed the said 36 million naira.
The JAMB lady who had earlier claimed that a snake had swallowed cards proceeds, changed her mind and now claimed that the naira eating reptile was actually her boss, the coordinator of the scratch cards.
In her confessional statement to the EFCC in Abuja, the lady, Mrs Makurdi Philomina Chieshe, revealed that the money was being collected from her installmentally by her boss, Mr. Samuel Umoru, her coordinator.
As a result of her new statement, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested her boss, Mr. Samuel Umoru, who specialized in transferring funds from the boards’ accounts.
She further revealed that the coordinator usually asked her to withdraw proceeds of sales of the cards from her accounts in two banks.
According to the Punch News, before the advent of the Treasury Single Accounts, it was disclosed that JAMB officials were in charge of keeping the proceeds of sales of the cards in an unauthorized bank accounts which had led to the loss of billions of naira.
Chieshe explained to the EFCC under oath that, the money she withdraw from the proceeds accounts was used by the coordinator for his personal use and also for the office.
She claimed that she had been warning Umaru about it, adding that it was illegal to use the money for personal purpose and miscellaneous expenses in the office, but he didn’t listen.
She also claimed that Umoru was in the habits of withdrawing IOUs from the proceeds of the sale of the cards without compensating her.
At the behest of the coordinator, Chieshe claimed she withdraw N340,000 on May 5 and 26, 2014 with an ATM card, adding that she used her ATM card to withdraw N120,000 for the coordinator between June 17 and 18, 2014.
She added that the coordinator instructed her to withdraw the sum of N640,000 using her card between June 30, 2014 and July 7, 2014.
It was disclosed that Umaru had been arrested and questioned about Chieshe’s claims and however released on administrative bail.
According to the Punch News, the EFCC investigation team had verified the withdrawals after a careful analysis on the statements of account of the suspect.
Early before the announcement of snake swallowing money became a public knowledge, Chieshe’s statement had already obtained by the EFCC.
