The Kaduna State deputy governor, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, has said the government would be tough in enforcing safety regulations to protect the lives of its citizens.
Balarabe stated this on Sunday when she visited the scene of the Saturday’s gas explosion which rocked Sabon Tasha Chikun Local Government area of the State.
Balarabe, who expressed her shock over the unfortunate incident, stressed the need for business owners to always adhere to government regulations and prioritise safety in their choice of business location.
The Deputy Governor called on residents of the State to report to authorities any person who situate life-threatening businesses such as gas plants in residential areas to avoid future occurrence.
“We are sad over this unfortunate incident. We pray for the repose of those who lost their lives. We advise residents to adhere strictly to government’s policy when opening business,” she told reporters shortly after the on the spot assessment of the scene of the incident.
She also commended the security as well as the humanitarian agencies for partaking in the search and rescue operations.
The PUNCH had reported that Saturday gas explosion claimed six lives, including that of the Chairman, Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission, Prof. Simon Mallam.
Mallam was said to have taken his grandson to a barber’s shop close to where retail gas outlet was located when the incident happened.
The fate of the Professor’s grandson was yet unknown.
