The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), has flagged-off the massive clean-up of the Kara Cattle M.ket in Isheri.

Speaking during the exercise, Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment and Chief Executive Officer of OGWAMA, Mr. Ola Oresanya said the Authority embarked on the massive clean-up to stop indiscriminate disposal of waste, which include cow-droppings, animal feeds and other market related wastes in and around the market, which make the environment dirty and untidy.

Oresanya, who led a team of Sweepers, Loaders, Private Service Providers (PSP), among others for the exercise, directed that henceforth, the traders must do a daily clean-up, while OGWAMA would help evacuate the wastes generated, so that trading activities would be done in a clean and hygienic environment.

The Special Adviser also banned the traders from dumping cow-droppings, wastes from animal intestines and bones in the near-by Ogun Rivers around the market, saying that the wastes would prevent free flow of water, which could result in flooding.

He therefore charged them to follow the new normal guidelines in the cleanliness of the market, warning that Ogun State Government would not allow the old ways, especially when considering the fact that that market was on the boundary between Ogun and Lagos State.

He lamented that the unclean nature of this place before now, was not what we stoof for in the Gateway State..

Responding, the Secretary of the Kara Market Traders Association, Alhaji Babalola Adewale promised his members’ cooperation with the State, in achieving a clean environment in and around the market.
