ABEOKUTA – A 45-year-old Landlord, Taoreed Adegbite has been arrested by Operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Ogun State for allegedly robbing his neighbour at gunpoint.
The suspect alongside his partner, Raheem Taiwo, 42, were arrested on Wednesday at Oke-Ata Housing Estate, Abeokuta after a gun battle with the police.
Parading the suspects at the SARS headquarters in Magbo, Abeokuta, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi alongside OC SARS in the state, SP Uba Adams told journalists that, the robbers were arrested by the men of the Lafenwa Police division after a hot chase.
SP Oyeyemi said the operatives of the Anti-robbery squad swung into action after a tip off by the victim, Mr. Okeyunbo Wale of Oke-Odo, Soyoye Area of Abeokuta.
The Police Spokesman said, the robbery gang numbering about six robbed the victim of his Rovers car at his residence.
He said the gang leader (Toareed) stormed residence of his victim at about 4:00am on Wednesday, shooting sporadically to create fear in his victim.
He further explained that, the robbers who came with 10litres of fuel to the robbing scene, successfully drove away the car.
“This morning at about 4:00am in the morning, our men in Lanfewa division received distress call from Oke-Odo community in Soyoye area of Abeokuta, that some armed robbers numbering about six invaded community and they were shooting sporadically.
“The DPO Lafenwa division, CSP Ahmed Odunlami, mobilized his anti-robbery team, but before they got there, the robbers have succeeded in robbing one of the residents of the area, one Mr. Okeyunbo Wale of his Rovers vehicle.
“So on getting there, we were informed that the vehicle had been snatched away. The DPO and his anti-robbery squad, they gave them hot chase which led to a gun battle with the bandits at Oke-Ata Housing Estate where they were gun down.
“The surprising thing is that, the leader of the gang happened to be a close door neighbour of the victim. He is a landlord in the area of his operation (Oke-Odo community) and he led his gang members to forcefully collected the car key from the victim as well as the car documents before they took the car away.
Other suspects paraded by the police include a three-man gang who snatched away a 18-seater bus belonging to a Redeemed Church member in Ondo state.
SP Oyeyemi who gave the names of the gang members as; Goodluck Felix Richard, Semiu Mustapha, and Sodiq Lawal.
Oyeyemi pointed out that, Goodluck Felix, 23years snatched the bus at Ore axis, in Ondo state in June this year and later transferred it to his crime partner, Sodiq Lawal who therefore gave the bus to the driver, Semiu Mustapha for commercial purposes.
He therefore said the suspects would be charged to courts for prosecution.
