A 61-year-old clergy, Famakinwa Ajayi, had been arrested by the police in Ondo State for allegedly raping and impregnating a 16-year-old girl, Ilesanmi Oluwatosin.
Parading the suspect at the Command headquarters, Alagbaka, Akure, the spokesperson for the Command, Odunlami Funmilayo, a Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) said the suspect was arrested when the victim reported the case at Ayede Ogbese, Akure North Local Government Areas.
She said the suspect confessed to having slept with the girl once in his sitting room.
Speaking with newsmen, the suspect, who is the landlord to the parents’ of the victim, denied raping or impregnating the girl.
The girl, who’s six months pregnant, alleged that the landlord had carnal knowledge of her in a market square late in the night on one occasion.
She claimed that someone saw them in the market but was bribed by the clergy in the night.
But the landlord has denied all the allegations, saying he initially admitted to committing the crime because some people told him he would go to jail if he denied it.
According to the pastor, “I never had carnal knowledge of Oluwatosin. It’s a conspiracy to tarnish my image because I threatened to send them out of my house if they didn’t continue to attend the joint night prayer I usually hold in my apartment.
“I told them at the police station to ask why the girl waited till six months before claiming he’s the one who impregnated her.
“I told them to let us do the DNA test, but they said it’s when the baby is born that it could be done.
“I didn’t have carnal knowledge of the girl. This is just a plan to rope me.”
Nevertheless, the Public Relations Officer of the Command said the suspect would soon be arraigned in court.
