Karmo Grade one Court in the capital of Nigeria has sentenced one Theophilus Joseph, a 34-year-old to four weeks imprisonment for stealing polish valued at N350.
Mr Theophilus who admitted to committing the offence of thievery begged the court for mercy saying he had no idea what came over him.
Ibrahim Muktari the owner of Chumelac Super Market in Jabi, Abuja had reported the cases at the Utako police station on February 13 saying Theophilus had entered his shop and stole a shoe polish worth N350
The prosecuting lawyer Ijeoma Ukagha, said during the course of police investigation, different taken merchandise valued N17,000 was found in Joseph’s possession, adding that he had been stealing from the shop since 2018.
Joseph was caught while trying to escape from the scene of the crime and the polish recovered from his pocket.
Inuwa Maiwada, who presided over the matter on Monday, gave the verdict of 3,000 fine and four weeks imprisonment and warned him to be of excellent behaviour.
Ukagha said the offence contravened the provisions of section 288 of the panel code.
