The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye appreciated the Sultan of Sokoto, Emir of Kano, the Alafin, the Olubadan and the Alake of Egbaland Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, for their standing for Nigeria’s unity, cohesion and mutual understanding.
Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who was thanking Guests at the lecture marking his 5th Coronation Anniversary, argued that Nigeria was a great country and should therefore promote love and affection to fully realise its potentials.
He extolled the Alafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi for mutual understanding and respect, all for the development of Yorubaland.
He disclosed that he nostalgically chose the Premier Hotel, which was built in 1960 for £1million and still very strong, as the venue for his 5th Coronation Anniversary.
Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi also disclosed that the past five years were not all rosy. According to him, it had its rainy and stormy days, adding that rainbow eventually appeared in horizon.
He specially thanked Chief Obasanjo immensely for his positive roles, during the journey to the throne.
Ooni lamented the assassination of the Olufon yesterday,
He said that the Sultan was always pleasant with him, adding that the Sultan was very passionate about Nigeria’s unity.
He praised the Odole O’Dua, Sir Kensington Adebutu, who he described as one of the greatest Yoruba leaders who loved his race.
He added that Aare Kola Oyefeso, the Balogun of Ode Remo, who represented the Odole Chief Adebutu as the Chairman of the event, was also a great Yoruba and Nigerian in his own right.
Speaking earlier, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’adu Abubakar, said he shared a lot confidences on Nigerian security, growth and development with the Ooni.
The Sultan called on all Nigerians to live and love Nigeria adding that every Nigerian should be his brothers’ keeper according to all religions.
He said he was familiar with Southwest and that was why he understood and respected them.
He said Allah would inquire from all of us what we have done to help humanity.
Sultan commanded the Ooni, who is the Chancellor of Sokoto Varsity for stabilizing the institution.
He disagreed with those calling for the dissolution of Nigeria as that would not solve the Nigeria’s myriad problems.
The Alake of Egbaland was represented by a 2-man delegation of AgbaAkin, Retired Navy Captain Rasheed Raji and Aare Baaroyin Layi Labode.
The Iyalode of Egbaland and Yorubaland, Chief (Mrs) Alaba Lawson was also at the occasion alongside some Egba women Chiefs, the Seriki GbegbaAje, Chief (Mrs) Fadare and Chief Bolanle Ayorinde.
Others on roll call at the occasion included, the Elegushen, the Oniru and many other Monarchs, all who the Ooni described as playmates before they were all eventually crowned in their various domains.
