“My Presidential Ambition Is Not A Do Or Die Affair… I am Academically And Practically Experienced To Ease Away Insecurity.” -Kayode Fayemi



The Governor of Ekiti State and Chairman of the Nigeria’s Governors’ Forum, Dr Fayemi, has described his bid to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari as the next President of the Country, was never informed by inordinate ambition nor an excursion into self glorification.

Dr Kayode Fayemi, who was addressing the Alake, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, members of the Egba Traditional Council and Egba High Chiefs, explained that his taking a shot at the maximum office was basically out of his wish to continue serving Nigeria and make every citizen to love and pride himself as a Nigerian.

Dr Fayemi expressed appreciation to the Alake for accepting his short invitation, as he was aware of the busy atmosphere of the Palace

He told the Alake that he as been visiting Traditional Rulers across Yoruba nation, especially in the Southwest.

He said that as a thorough Yoruba son, he had to consult Elders of the Communities before embarking on such a great journey.


Fayemi further explained that, he had worked with likes of professor Wole Soyinka, Anthony Enahoro and others when they created Radio Kudira for justice agitation for late MKO Abiola when he was deprived of his clear victory in 1993 general election.

He added that, this led to the coming to power of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He recalled that he had won and lost elections and yet handed to the supposedly victorious candidate, basically to save lives and limps of the people.

Fayemi said that his antecedents earned him the Chairmanship of the Governor’s Forum, which he believed he had been steering well.

He therefore pointed out that his bid to succeed President Muhammad Buhari as the next President Of Nigeria was not a do or die affair, but a courageous call to serve, to build a nation and not a country.

He disclosed that in cause of moving round the country, he had learned that what was wanted by Nigerian was enanbling environment to make them happy and be fulfilled

On security, he told the Alake and Egba Chiefs that he the requisite academic and practical qualifications, alongside cognate experience locally and internationally adding that he had a Doctorate Degree in Security.

On solutions to the current insecurity in the country, Dr Fayemi said that Military solutions might not solve apparently intractable problem.

In his response, the Alake, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, said Dr Kayode Fayemi was a best example the determination and high principle for which Ekiti people were known and respected for.

Alake commended Dr Fayemi for identifying poverty, inequality and poor education as the bane of Nigeria’s problems.

Oba Adedotun Gbadebo said Dr Fayemi was a gentleman who would not do anything for personal gains

The Alake prayed that God would accept Dr Fayemi’s clear ambition and projections which were aimed at giving his very best to Nigeria.

Members of the Egba Traditional Council including the Agura of Gbagura, Oba Saburee BAKRE, the OnijalePapa, Oba Aderounmu Babalola,  the Olu Itori Oba Akorede Akamo,  the OLU Owode Oba Kolawole Sowemimo , and Oniro of Its and many others were at the occasion.

Also Egba High Chiefs led by Balogun Sikirullah Atobatele included  Aare Babayeju Ganiu, Baagbimo Akanni Akimwale,  Bantun Kehinde Sofenwa Aare Baaroyin Layi Labode, Asiwaju Baamofin Sunday Oduntan, AgbaAkim Rasheed Raji, Bobagunwa Toye Okanlawon and many others
