Neuropsychiatric Hospital Aro, Abeokuta in partnership with the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Ogun State Chapter will on Thursday 10th of October, 2019 join the rest of the World to celebrate the World Mental Health Day.
The World Health Organization has set aside this day every year to provide opportunity to raise mental health awareness and to help people with mental illness to live better lives with dignity.
The theme for this year’s World Mental Health Day is ‘Mental Health Promotion & Suicide Prevention’ and the day provides the opportunity for Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, the foremost Psychiatric Hospital in Nigeria, to raise awareness on mental health issues and mobilize efforts towards fighting the menace of suicide in our society.
The activities lined up by the Hospital to celebrate the day include a press conference which will be addressed by Dr. Timothy O. Adebowale, the Provost and Medical Director of the Hospital as well as a lecture and service launch.
The focus of the press conference will be the activities of the Neuropsychiatric Hospital Aro in the provision of community mental health services in Ogun state and her contribution to the fight against the scourge of suicide in Nigeria.
Dr. Oluyinka E. Majekodunmi, the Head of the Hospital’s Forensic services will deliver a lecture on the topic “Suicide and Suicide Prevention in Nigeria” at the event.
The major highlight of this year’s celebration of the World Mental Health Day by the Hospital will be the launching of a “Stress Helpline” for the benefit of the public.
It is aimed at providing necessary professional assistance and appropriate referrals as the need arises.
These events in commemoration of the World Mental Health Day will take place on Thursday 10th October, 2019 at the Nigerian Union of Journalists’ Secretariat, Iwe-Iroyin House, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta at 10:00am prompt.
