In a bid to further curtail the spread of coronavirus, as well as promote public hygiene, the Nigerian Police, Ogun State Command, has stated its readiness to prosecute environmental offenders.
The State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Kenneth Ebrimson, revealed this when he received the management of the newly-established Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) in his office at the Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, stating that his Command, as first responder in the fight against the spread of Covid-19, had discovered that poor hygiene and other environmental infractions were major contributors to the spread of the pandemic.
“Nigeria Police, Ogun State Command is willing to stem this tide by co-operating with the State’s Waste Management Authority by arresting and prosecuting environmental offenders so that we would have a better, safe and disease- free environment”, he said.
CP Ebrimson urged residents to imbibe public hygiene protocols and avoid violating environmental laws by properly disposing their wastes.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment and Head, OGWAMA, Mr. Ola Oresanya, thanked the Command for being proactive in enforcing the state environmental laws, which he noted, would enhance the agency’s operation, pledging to partner the state command in the efforts to rid all Stations, Area/Divisional offices and barracks of wastes, for effective service delivery.
