The DG of National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD), Dr Obi Peter Adigwe disclosed that the organization has mandated various activities to address the income of Coronavirus in the country, among which is the establishment of a database system that identifies local Pharmaceutical companies licensed by NAFDAC to produce hand sanitizers, assisting them in massive production and distribution
Dr Adigwe stated this during a briefing on the entry of Coronavirus in Nigeria by the Minister of Health; Dr Osagie Ehanire and representatives of World Health Organization, adding that the company is mandated to safeguard health and development for Nigeria
He further explained that the database system would operate by using data efficiency to collate companies who already have NAFDAC license and machinery but are not getting enough shifts, to link them with other officials in order to advance the availability of sanitizing products adding that interested companies are to write directly to NIPRD through information.NIPRD@niprd.gov.ng where response will be made within 48 hours
He also added that the use of alcohol in production has been effective and alcohol producing companies have been liaised with for more effective production
The DG then presented a hand sanitizer manufactured by NIPRD to the Miniser of Health which was used by the minister and other officials present

The Minister of Health in his response, urged that the product be presented to NAFDAC and acknowledged the fact that the production establishes employment opportunities in the country
He further advised the general populace to protect themselves by avoiding crowd as well as self medication when feeling sick
