The Governing Council of (O. A. U), Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has dismissed another lecturer, Dr. Adebayo Mosobalaje on Tuesday, September 7th, 2021.
Dr. Adebayo Mosobalaje was said to be guilty of sexually harassing a Female Student.
A release by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that the decision to dismiss Dr. Adebayo Mosobalaje of the Department of English Language in the Faculty of Arts was taken by the University Council at its last sitting on Tuesday, September 7th, 2021.
It was disclosed that the report given by the O. A. U’s Joint Committee of Council and Senate which investigated the case of sexual harassment against Dr. Mosobalaje was thoroughly deliberated on by the University Council prior to the dismissal of the Lecturer.
However, the University Council had declared its zero tolerance to sexual harassment in any form or guise.
As regards the Institution, there are some appropriate sanctions for such an offence as contained in the University’s Regulations
Two weeks ago, the University Management formally inaugurated an ‘anti-sexual harassment policy’ to alleviate such act from the Institution.
At several spots, the Vice-Chancellor of O. A. U, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, has always reiterated the commitment of his administration to uphold the ‘zero-tolerance policy’ for sexual harassment and other social vices.
Notwithstanding, the University’s Council chaired by Prof. Owelle Oscar Udoji also pledged to support policies that promote mutual co-existence between all members of the University Community.
