OGHA PASSES RESOLUTIONS ON ILLEGAL USE OF NUMBER PLATES, SIREN

Towards promoting sanity and a safer society, the Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution, calling on security and other appropriate government agencies to step up measures towards enforcing the law to check the use of official number plates and siren by unauthorised persons.

The passage of the resolution, followed a motion moved by a member, representing Ogun Waterside State Constituency, Hon. Akeem Balogun, seconded by his Sagamu II counterpart,  Hon. Ademola Adeniran and supported by the Whole House, through a voice vote, at a Plenary presided over by Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Contributing, Honourable members including, Adegoke Adeyanju, Bolanle Ajayi and Oludaisi Elemide, said it became imperative for security agencies to checkmate the illegal usage of official number plates by persons, particularly, ex-political office holders in the State and Local Government Councils, adding that unlawful usage of siren and the coverage of number plates, could be used to perpetrate crimes  in the society, bringing the State into disrepute.

Meanwhile, Speaker Oluomo, had earlier announced the composition of a –nine-man selection Committee, to include himself as the Chairman, his Deputy, Oludare Kadiri, as Vice Chairman, while other members include, the Majority Leader, Sheriff Yusuf, Chief Whip Atinuke Bello, Minority Leader Ganiyu Oyedeji, Minority Whip Jemili Akingbade, Yusuf Adejojo, Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi and Olakunle Sobukanla.

The Speaker stated that the composition of the Committee was in line with the Assembly’s standing order and urged Committee to submit its report within one week.

In another development, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, has advised parents to monitor their children during this raining season, just as the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET), has predicted that there would be flooding in most States of the country, urging residents to desist from dumping refuse in drainage channels to avoid flooding.
