As Ogun State sustains its position as one of the fastest growing economies in Nigeria and the West Africa sub-region, the need for a viable migration control system has been emphasized.
The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who stated this at the official commissioning of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Front Office, in Sagamu, noted that the continued growth of already existing businesses and increased inflow of investment has resulted in influx of people to the country.
Abiodun who was represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said Ogun State is fast attaining a mega status, in terms of commercial activities of international dimension, stressing that, people with local businesses would begin to build business partnerships across international borders.
“This is where the Nigeria Immigration Service, especially, the Passport Office comes in, because there will be need for more international travel to build new international business partnerships and strengthen already existing ones, which will boost technological transfer and ease the expansion of investment and growth of business”, Abiodun stated.
The Governor commended the Comptroller- General for his leadership role in controlling the influx of criminals across the porous borders, noting that the establishment of additional Passport Office in the State was a pointer to the readiness and commitment of the people to the successful implementation of the building our future together agenda.
In his remark, the Comptroller General of NIS, Muhammad Babandede, said the Federal Government was magnanimous to approve the proposal for 10 year E-passport and the establishment of Sagamu passport front office, charging Officers of the command to remain committed to duty and shun corruption.
Earlier in his opening speech, Ogun State Comptroller, NIS, Muhammed Harande, said the conception of the Sagamu front office, which was part of discourse at the 2017 Comptroller General of Immigration annual conference, held in the state, was designed to make life easier for all residents of the state.
Dignitaries at the event included the former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, HRM Oba Babatunde Ajayi, Asiwaju of Remoland, Asiwaju Samuel Kayode Onafowokan amongst others.
