Ogun State Government has been commended for being the front burner in promoting the rich cultural heritage and values inherent in the State and country both at the local and internationally levels.
Director General, National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Otunba Segun Runsewe, gave the commendation at the Ogun State Day of the 12th Edition of the International Arts and Crafts (INAC) Expo, held at the Federal Capital Territory Exhibition Pavilion, Abuja with the theme, “Networking Nigerian Crafts to The World”.
“Ogun State is always setting the pace when it comes to promoting, maintaining and keeping faith in showcasing the best of our country’s culture. It was the face of the country at the 2018 International Arts & Crafts (INAC) Expo. I commend the State government for keeping faith in promoting our tradition and investing in it”, the DG noted.
He commended the Dapo Abiodun’s administration’s support to the activities of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which he added would attract investors and tourists to the State.
On her part, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Alhaja Selimot Ottun, said the exhibition, co-ordinated by the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), was an avenue to showcase the rich culture and tradition of the State, adding that this had attracted both local and international partners who came to purchase the local Adire and Kampala which were being used in the production of other things such as, hand fans, bags, slip-ons, among others.
‘’The different festivals we have partaken have enlightened the public that the State is not only about Kampala and Adire, as there are lots of things that could be made from them. We are ready to partner with people who are interested in what we are producing in the State, irrespective of the country, thereby serving as an opportunity to expand from local to international market’’.
Also Speaking, Director of Culture Department in the Ministry, Mr. Seye Adeyemo, said the State was at the Expo to showcase the utility use of its products such as wood works, Adire and Kampala, which had gone beyond making apparels that were being sold beyond the State, adding that some of the rich cuisines, amongst others, were also on display.
The four day Expo, in which 11 States and over 30 countries participated, had Ogun State bagging first position in four different categories namely; Best Product Design Category (Wood works), Best in Product Designs(Textiles) and Best in Product Design, First in INAC 2019.
Special Award Category of Special Days for two consecutive time; three plaques were also received on behalf of the State by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Yusuff Adejojo
