The Ogun State government is presently on the mission to rejuvenate the urban renewal drive of the State, thus, it is dangerous for developers and prospective home owners in the Ogun to build structures on waterways, erosion and drainage channels, as well as flood prone areas, as the present administration vows to sanction such acts in the State
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPL Olatunji Odunlami made this declaration while speaking with newsmen in Abeokuta, saying the State Government would leave no stone unturned to prevent unnecessary loss of lives and property, as the rainy season approaches with the attendant weather forecast for the period.
Odunlami said towards ensuring sanity in Physical planning, government was set to take appropriate steps at examining the entire floodable areas and roads that have been blocked by illegal constructions.
He affirmed that most of the structures built on water ways and drainage channels were without planning permit or approval from Ogun State Government, as stipulated in the Regional Planning Law of the State, adding that government would look into areas where illegal structures are springing up indiscriminately, for necessary action.
The Commissioner noted that obtaining planning permit before commencement of construction was important, maintaining that the present administration was determined to make the State an orderly and livable place for investment to thrive.
He also appealed to residents and other stakeholders to cooperate with the State Government in its drive to achieving a safe and secure environment by being law abiding, urging them to report defaulters to the government.
