ABEOKUTA – The governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun has promised his commitment to run a transparent and accountable government if elected as the state governor in 2019.
Abiodun gave the assurance on Friday when he visited Ogun State league of Imams at the Egba Central Mosque, Kobiti, Abeokuta.
The APC flagbearer who seek the support and blessing of the Muslim leaders commended the peaceful and harmonious relationship among the religious bodies in the state.
According to him, the peaceful coexistence enjoyed in the state was as a result of the harmonious relationship between the religious bodies in the state.
He said his administration would strengthen the religion institutions by appointing a Special Adviser on Religious Affairs and have Special Assistant for both Islamic and Christian religions to bring them closer to the government.
“Like I said earlier on, we will ensure that we keep them very close to our chest by appointing a Special Adviser on Religious Affairs and having Special Assistant for both the Islamic and Christian religions.
“So, we have someone who is constantly bringing their issues to the fore so that they are not lost in the shovel of things. But I have assured them both that we will only be building on what Governor Ibikunle Amosun has done. It will not be any less. If they have enjoyed peace and harmony, we will improve on that.
“I came here today to get the blessings of the Muslim community. The same we have seen CAN. So that they can pray for us before we embark on going around and campaigning. We also solicit their support because they are religious leaders.
“We thanked them for the peace we have been enjoying in Ogun State because if there is no harmony in both the Islamic and Christian religions, there may crisis. I also shared with them part of my vision for Ogun State.”
Speaking on behalf of the Muslim leaders, the Chief Imam of Egbaland, Alhaji Liadi Orunsolu advised the governorship to toe the path of honour by fulfilling his electoral promises if elected.
