ABEOKUTA – Following the widespread speculation that the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo was in Abuja on Sunday to meet with President Buhari to intercede on APC crisis in Ogun State, a top Egba High Chief has dismissed the speculation, saying the Egba monarch is not a politician to be involved in party dispute.
The Egba chief who preferred anonymity told NEWS FLAGSHIP on phone that, the revered Monarch has no basis to be involve in any political struggle between party members as the party would present their candidate to the public.
Rumour broke out on Sunday that, the monarch was sponsored by Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on the president on his choice of governorship candidate for APC in the state.
But the palace chief said, the royal father is not a card carrying member of any party, adding that, the visit to President Buhari was for the sustainability of peace in the state.
“I have not been able to read the news, but to the best of my knowledge Alake is not begging Buhari for Akinlade or Dapo Abiodun but for the sustainability of peace.
“Alake is not a Card carrying member of any party and has no basis to involved in any political struggle between party members as the party will present their candidate to him and to all of us.
“So many people had been calling to ask questions as I was with him till midnight yesterday. Kabiyesi did not canvass for substitution of any list. He only canvassed for lasting peace in Ogun State.
“We should refrain from dragging our traditional rulers from the murky waters of politics.”
Meanwhile, the Baaroyin of Egbaland, Olootu Layi Labode has said the monarch would react to the allegation on Monday.
Baaroyin Labode in a press release on Sunday stated that, the palace was aware of the interest of the media and the public on the matter.
“We have been following, with keen interest and responsibility, the news making round in the media, that the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, His Majesty, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, CFR and the Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, had gone to Abuja to intercede in ongoing disagreement between Senator Ibikunle Amosun and APC National leadership, on the Ogun State APC Governorship ticket dispute, with President Muhammadu Buhari and APC leadership.
“We are very much aware of the interest of the Media and the public in such circumstance.
“We wish to assure the media and the public that, His Majesty, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, would speak to the Media on the issue tomorrow, Monday, 22 October, 2018 on the sideline of the swearing-in of the New Chief Judge of Ogun State, coming up at the Oba Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.”
