ABEOKUTA – The campaign organization of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has denied alleged rift in their ranks as well as among the party’s leadership in the state.
Segun Adegbenro, spokesperson of the group, in a statement on Wednesday, described rumours of the alleged rift as malicious as it is false, attributing it to the handiwork of the opposition.
He said, “Our attention has been drawn to a malicious statement credited to some disgruntled elements supporting other candidates disparaging the campaign team of Prince Dapo Abiodun and Ogun party leaders, alleging rift and unease.
“We did not only found the statement blackmailing and malicious, we also found it shocking that a national newspaper could join some individuals to propagate falsehood that have no root. The story lacks substance, it fails to reflect the present state and mood of our campaign.
“We are disappointed that a media outfit resorted to go this low, not unaware of their recent unprofessional activities aimed at slandering Prince Dapo Abiodun, a humble and determined APC candidate who has so far enjoyed the patronage and support of party leaders and people of Ogun State.”
Adegbenro maintained that the nation had been passing through a perilous times during which electoral losers at the heat of the campaign would come up with all sorts of cooked up allegations.
“But for us as a team, we would not have to join issues with these unscrupulous individuals peddling unfounded lies and rumors, but for unsuspecting supporters and people of Ogun who are bothered about the recurring attack on our Campaign Team. It is necessary we set the record straight.
“There is no truth or near truth in the lies that there is break in Prince Dapo Abiodun Campaign camp. We started our campaign rally, tagged ‘Ward-to-ward grassroots mobilisation’ in Ijebu North East, an idea conceived by the candidate because charity they say begins at home.
“Our candidate is from Iperu – Remo area of Ijebu. Logic demands he begins his campaign and political struggle from his home base, where he was nurtured and born. This better explains the reason for readjusting the schedule of the campaign. And of course, all party leaders and state executive members are fully in with us and alligned.
“It is also necessary we remind our people of the anti-party blackout that caused the national leadership to dissolve Ogun State Executive Council, which in no small measure affected our campaign planning and facilitated the adjustment of date of our the flag off which took off on Monday January 7,2019.
“Of note is the fact that all necessary stakeholders and important party leaders are fully in support of our campaign, most of the leaders occupy the directorate and strategy team of the campaign as the party move round the state asking for people’s vote.
“At the Ijebu North East, Chief Adegbenga Kaka, Sen Ashiru, APC Senatorial leaders were all in attendance, some serving commissioners and aides to Gov Amosun also formed attendance. This is to further assure and discredit the online and newspaper propaganda that there is rift and break in our calm,” he stressed.
