Ogun State Government has announced the discharge of three new patients from one of its Covid-19 isolation centres, making a total of six discharged patients, with three others still under active monitoring.
Revealing this at a press conference, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, said the trio had been given a clean bill of health to reunite with their families and continue their normal lives.
“Three individuals have been given a clean bill of health in the last 24 hours and discharged from one of our isolation centres, to join their families and resume their normal life, thus bringing the total number of discharged individuals to six.
“In addition, so far, we have identified 210 persons, who had contacts with the positive cases, out of which 110 underwent the required 14 days quarantine period, and only two tested positive, the remaining 108 tested negatives, on completion of the quarantine period,” she said.
Coker further disclosed that the first state fully funded molecular laboratory in the country has been delivered and installed, while it expects the delivery of another molecular laboratory, pointing out that the State is awaiting accreditation by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) for the already installed laboratory, which she said would help the State scale up its testing capacity.
She noted that the Gateway State has finalized the installation of Mobile Testing Booths to be deployed across Senatorial Districts, saying vulnerable areas such as communities bordering Lagos would be given priority, in order to stem community transmission in the State.
“We have also engaged the mobile laboratory which will be roaming around our communities and we’ve scaled the number of technicians to 60 that will be in our communities, they will be coming to your door steps with laptops to ask and engage you with the help of our self assessment tools, these tools will either identify you as low risk, medium risk or high risk, if you are high risk, we will encourage you to be tested”, she said.
Coker added that the measures put in place by the present administration would enable it have one-day return of test results for anyone suspected of having COVID-19 symptoms, saying the State has been able to manage the pandemic effectively so far and surpassed the global average for tested cases and transmission.
“The global average is 1 positive case to 3 new infections. In our case, it is 1 positive case to 1 new infection, “She stated.
The Commissioner, while encouraging the people to continue to adhere to all preventive measures, such as social distancing, washing of hands with soap and use of alcohol-based sanitizer, where there was no water, said they should also observe respiratory hygiene and make use of face mask.
