As part of concerted efforts to prevent the continued spread of the dreaded COVID-19 virus among humans and other living things, the Ogun State Government has commenced the disinfection of markets, schools and other high density gathering of more than 20 people across the State, with non-toxins chemicals, harmless to the body.
Flagging off the exercise at Kuto Market in Abeokuta, Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi said that the exercise was scheduled to be carried out in batches simultaneously across the four divisions of the State, to promote public health safety and personal hygiene status of the people, especially at this pandemic period.
“The Prince Dapo Abiodun led-administration in the state has commenced the disinfection of all markets, worship centers, schools, highways and other public spaces that accommodate more than 20 people at a go. This exercise, which is currently taking place simultaneously in the four divisions of the State, would last till Thursday morning.
Talabi revealed that in order to ensure that the disinfection was properly carried out, all Commissioners and other political appointees in the State were dispersed to oversee the entire exercise in their Local Governments, saying, no fewer than 900 personnel have been assigned to the task.
“On the non-toxic chemicals in use, an Epidemiologist have certified that it is harmless to the skin, as well as surfaces and very effective for destroying viruses and bacteria in our immediate surroundings’’, he maintained.
He enjoined the people to support government in its determination to make the State clean and healthy by inculcating the habit of regular house cleaning and self hygiene to avert such related occurrence.
Speaking also, the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Abudu-Balogun, solicited the understanding and cooperation of the people, assuring that the present government was deeply committed to the welfare and overall well-being of the people in the State.
