OGUN INAUGURATES COMMITTEE TO PREVENT EPIDEMIC

The Ogun State Government has inaugurated a One Health Inter-Sectoral Committee, to enhance communication channels among stakeholders and prepare against potential outbreak of epidemic.

The Committee, saddled with the responsibility of organising a quick response in case of epidemic, has members drawn from agencies of government, including Health, Agriculture, Environment, Medical Laboratory, Information, Finance, Research Institute, as well as international organisation.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the One Health Committee, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Adesanya Ayinde, said the mandate derived from the National Body of the Committee presented an opportunity to make Ogun State a better place.

Represented by the Director of Public Health, Dr. Festus Soyinka, the Permanent Secretary, noted that the Committee would not renege in playing its advisory role, pointing out that risk assessment, prevention strategies and updating of contingency plan would be its focal points.

“This is an opportunity to make Ogun State a better place in spite of deriving our authority from the national office. We will be committed to playing our advisory role and raising issues to appropriate bodies without delay. We will not renege in following up on issues of concern”, he said.

In her presentation, a Surveillance Officer in the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Abisola Egbebi, said that the One Health Committee in Ogun State would be proactive in its approach, just as it identifies barriers to synergy and existing gaps.

While assuring that the term of reference would not be compromised, she called on relevant stakeholders to be effective in their operations in the State.
