ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday joined their counterparts across the country to protest against the federal government’s directives of “No Work, No Pay” rule.

The sensitization rally which took place at the NUJ Press Centre, Iwe-Iroyin House, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta was joined by Trade Union Congress (TUC) Joint Negotiation Council and other mother unions.

The union condemned the minister of labour, Dr. Chris Ngige for conniving with the federal government of Nigeria to suffer the masses, while urging the federal government to regig on the economy of the country.

Speaking to newsmen on Tuesday, the Chairman, Ogun State NLC, Comrade Akeem Ambali described the N30,000 minimum wage as “chicken change”, saying if divided in a month, it results to N250 for family of Nigerian workers to survive.

The NLC boss slammed state governors for their refusal to approve the new minimum wage despite receiving bogus salaries and security votes.

“Governor Yari, Chris Ngige are inhumane, they are receiving fantastic salaries while negating the new minimum wage proposed to the federal government said Ambali.”

Also speaking, the state chairman of Trade Union Congress, Comrade Olubunmi Fabiyi, disclosed that the workers in Nigeria are the least paid in the world, ascribing it to the selfishness of the country ‘s leaders.

He described the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers as a right not a privilege.

Chief Kehinde Sofenwa, the Bantu of Egbaland who received the unions on Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, urged the unions to follow due process in pressing home their demands.

He also assured the unions of Kabiyesi’s intervention in the implementation of the 30 thousands minimum wage for nigerian workers.
