The Management of Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic, Sapade, Remo, Ogun State, has threatened to sanction students with low class attendance rate.
This was contained in an internal memo signed by the Registrar, Mr J. O. Popoola.
The Registrar, in the memo, warned that students who continue to exhibit lackadaisical attitude towards attendance of lectures risk being expelled from the school.
The internal memo, which was issued on Tuesday, 27th of July, 2021, also stated that the management of the school had perceived the lax approach of students towards attending lectures and were ready to take the necessary disciplinary measures to curb the act.
The memo read, “According to paragraph two of the Matriculation Oath sworn by all students, you swore allegiance to the polytechnic to obey all rules and regulations issued for the smooth administration of the Polytechnic.”
Students were advised to adhere strictly by the already laid down rules of the institution so as to avoid being sent home.
The management of the school therefore appealed to the affected to obey the school rules and regulations, and not risk dismissal from writing the upcoming examination in Gateway Polytechnic.
The memo further read that parents and guardians would be alerted of the negligent attitudes of their wards regarding lectures on campus, adding that the studentship of non-complying students would be determined.
According to a source, the students were in full attendance on Tuesday due to the observance of the school’s departmental week.
The management therefore deduced that students only show interest in leisure and entertainment, other than their studies.
