Ogun State Government has approved the evacuation of more checked and assessed logs still lying on the Forests’ floor due to inability to load in Free Areas outside government’s direct control in Ogun Waterside.
The Director of Survey, Demarcation, Inventory and Extension, Ministry of Forestry, Mr. Adewale Shonubi, said Government has yielded to the appeal by Stakeholders and end users of Forest products by granting a four-week period from Monday, 4th to Friday 29th November, 2019, for the evacuation exercise.
Shonubi, who made this known in his office at Oke-Mosan, pointed out that the period of evacuation for all Pass Hammered logs and other value chain items would take only two weeks, assessed and checked logs would have three weeks, while logs at various loading points in Ogun Waterside would take four weeks, due to transportation challenges as a result of the distance
He noted that there was an earlier plea for waiver to timber contractors and other value-chain operators in major Forest Reserves which was also extended to the Free Areas and Ogun Waterside.
He advised all Stakeholders to adhere to the rules guiding the release exercise, adding that acts of illegalities within the Free Areas of the forest would not be allowed as culprits would be punished according to the law.
