Ogun Speaker Charges Lawmakers on Regional Development

ABEOKUTA – House of Assembly members in the South West States have been enjoined to chart more developmental initiatives to maintain their leading position in the region.

The Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suraju Ishola Adekunbi gave the charge on Tuesday at the South West Legislative Reform and Implementation Committee (SLRIC) meeting of the Majority Leaders in the region, held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Adekunbi, in a press statement signed by the Press Officer, Ogun State House of Assembly, Jamiu Lawal said it became imperative for legislators in the region to work in line with the vision of the forebears, towards ensuring that, the zone South West states become strong regional player in the country.

Expressing that the forum was a partner in progress with the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN Commission), Adekunbi explained that the choice of the Ogun State as the venue was hinged on the infrastructural developments witnessed under the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led government, which he said had made the State industrial hub of the nation.

Commending Governor Amosun for his leadership style and ingenuity at ensuring harmonious relationship with all arms of government, the Speaker charged the majority leaders to design recommendations that would sustain the region as model in the nation.

Also speaking, the Majority Leader, Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adeyinka Mafe, extolled the leading roles of the State in all fields of endeavours, describing the event as an avenue for legislators to harness ideas for the development of their various states and the nation at large.

In his remark, Chairman, SLRIC and Majority Leader, Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Owoeye stated that the Committee which was a product of the Conference of South-West Speakers, would facilitate common legislative framework and training for its members, for improved service delivery of all legislatures in South-West States.

Meanwhile, two bills, H.B. No. 030/OG/2018- Ogun State Records and Archives Law, 2018 and H.B No. 031/OG/2018- Ogun State College of Health Technology (Amendment) Law, 2018 read by the Clerk, Engr. Lanre Bisiriyu before members of the House have scaled the first reading at the plenary, presided over by the Speaker Rt. Hon. Suraju Ishola Adekunbi.
