Ogun State has clinched the highest position among the six participating States, in the Nigeria For Women Project (NFWP) .
The Minister for Women Affairs, Dr. Pauline K. Tallen made this known during her keynote address at the Nigeria For Women Project flag-off ceremony, held at the M.K.O International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta on Friday 1st of April, 2022.
According to her, in the first batch of the disbursement, the NFWP had disbursed 672,177,650 million naira, where Kebbi disbursed N171,690,850.00, Niger disbursed N 104,000,000.00, Abia disbursed N 135,777,000.00 and Ogun disbursed N 260,709, 820.00, which showed that Ogun State had the highest.
Speaking further, the Minister for Women Affairs disclosed that, the Nigeria For Women Project (NFWP) was signed and supported by President Mohammadu Buhari, in order to empower the women in the society, noting that, the training included financial education, selling and trading education, business skills, so as to have the capacity to monitor their businesses and maintain their respective family.
She affirmed that, as result of the programme, many women had built better relationship with their family.
She further disclosed that, President Buhari had signed the initiative to take place in other States in the country.
Dr Tallen recalled that, as at March 2022, the mass project recorded a total 11491 women group nationwide with a total membership of 245,069 women who had been able to publicized more than 1.3 billion naira of their own resources, the States included were Niger, Abia, Kebbi which had 8267 beneficiaries.
The Minister for Women Affairs noted that, beneficiaries from the benefitted Local Governments of Ogun State, whose businesses had been approved had received theirs, adding that, the total number of beneficiaries were 4,517, whereby, Yewa North Local Government had 1,213, Odeda Local Government had 1,606 and Ijebu Northeast Local Government had 1,698.
She stated that, empowering women was like strengthening the community and nation at large.
Dr Tallen implored all women to join the initiative in order to be among the champions and make Nigeria better.
She therefore urged other State leaders to revitalize and renovate the initiative in helping the development of women in the society.
