The local government pensioners Ogun state chapter has faulted a statement made by Prince Dapo Abiodun on Saturday on inherited indebtedness of the local govt pensioneers in the state.
The is was made known in a statement made available to journalists on Monday 1st August 2022 signed by Comrade W.O. Oloyede and Comrade (Dr) Bola Lawal JP State Chairman .
The Union stated that, governor Abiodun shouldn’t have glorified himself over N2.5 Billion he paid in gratuity out of outstanding N68 Billion with his 3 years in office
The statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun on Sunday, July 31st, 2022 on the payment of pension entitlements.”
“Prince Dapo Abiodun glorified himself to have paid N2.5 billion in gratuity out of an outstanding N68 billion for his 3 years in office”.
“It is unfortunate that Governor Dapo Abiodun sees himself as a champion compared with other State Governors who assumed office as first timer like Abiodun and who have performed marvelously well e.g. Alh. Baba Gana Zulum of Borno State cleared N15 Billion Naira in his first release.
The union also stated that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State as at now has paid more than N18.5 Billion in gratuity to Oyo State Pensioners, yet he met the indebtedness on assumption of office.
The union faulted Governor Abiodun for the statement he made that he was not the one who owes the indebtedness is highly unfortunate adding that, he had forgotten that Governance is a continuum!
“He who enjoys assets must not disclaim liabilities”.
“Governor Abiodun is supposed to pay N500 Million quarterly on gratuities. Two quarters are still outstanding for 2022”.
“Let Governor Abiodun pay all our entitlements including Consequential Adjustment in Pension before he can glorify himself as an achiever”
“Moreover, we never expected such a statement from the Governor, in view of the fact that the two inaugurated committees on pension are yet to submit their reports”.
