Ogun State government says an employment Trust Fund would be established to provide seed fund for the unemployed with vocation and skills to enable them start their businesses and internship programme, which would serve as temporary employment.
The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who disclosed this in a speech after his inauguration at the Mko Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, said a portal for the registration of the unemployed, particularly, the youth in the State would be opened, where they were expected to provide details of their qualifications and skills acquired.
On Public Service reform, Governor Abiodun assured that his administration would be worker friendly and be opened to all categories of workers and pensioners, adding that relevant training programmes, such as Information and Communication Technology (ICT) would be organised for them to enhance productivity.
He disclosed that his administration was well aware of the plight of workers in the State, ranging from low morale and productivity, not too conducive working environment and lack of needed trainings.
“We are aware that the workers in Ogun State have been confronted with a number of challenges that resulted in low morale and productivity. We shall ensure that their welfare is paramount and the environment in which they work are conducive, to enhance their productivity.
“Our economy is only as good as his managers, within the limit of available resources, we shall endeavour to be fair, open, just, equitable to all our workers and pensioners”, he said.
While promising to provide affordable housing scheme to workers, he noted that his government would be prudent, transparent and accountable, in order to ensure that public resources and opportunities available are utilised for the betterment of all citizens in the State.
In his remark, the State Head of Service, Engr. Lanre Bisiriyu, thanked former leaders, who laid the foundation for the greatness of the State, appreciating the people and religious leaders for their prayers for the peace and progress of the State.
