Old Baptist Boys High School And NTA, Oke-Egunya, Ogbe, Ago-Oba, Others, Get Access Roads After More Than A Century of Existence.


Oke Egunya area of Abeokuta has been made popular by the Old Baptist Boys High, Oke Egunya the first and founding location of the first generation Secondary School in Nigeria.

The School, which had produced the likes of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, MKO Abiola, and the Alake, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, is hosted by Ikanna Community, which by extension, is also surrounded by other Egba Communities like Ogbe, Ago-Oba, Igbore and Oba.

The Ikanna Traditional Council as well as in Ikanna Oluwo Home Stead, led by the Oluwo Ikanna, Chief John Onadele and Odofin Ikanna and Baale Ikanna Oluwo, Chief Rahman Babatunde made history on Wednesday, 17th of February, 2022, by opening up the landlocked Community, through self-help.

Speaking exclusively to Newsflagship Reporter at the roads construction site on the Egunya Hills, the Odofin Ikanna and Baale Ikanna Oluwo, disclosed that, the project was a Network of Arterial Roads to enable social and economic activities in the area, adding that, the road networks would pass through Oba to Odo Ogbe, back to Ikanna conclave, to enhance their movement.

The Odofin Ikanna also called on prominent individuals, Local, State and the Federal Governments to give assistance in the completion of the road networks project going on in the area.

Chief Babatunde reiterated that, there were a lot to be done in the area, such as construction of drainages, tarring of the road and fixation of street lights in the area, hence, calling out to Government to assist them in securing the completion of the project.

He reconfirmed that, the road networks construction going on in the area, would also enhance the security of the town, whereby, it would be possible for vehicles to go in and out of the town, also asserting that, when there were street lights in the town, any unkempt activities would easily be identified,

According to him, the people of Ikanna moved from its Home Stead to Abeokuta town, and since, had no roads that could enter Ikanna township.

He lamented that, they had always been trapped at Ikanna, adding that, they had no road networks in and out of the town.

He stated that, during the time of the former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, attempts were made to creating road networks in the area but one thing or the other, it was abandoned.

Speaking further, Chief Babatunde  affirmed that, the road networks would lead to a great improvement in the economy activities of the town, adding that, rents would be affected positively, businesses would emerge, House Agents would be able to come in and out with ease.

Also speaking with the Apena of Ikanna, Chief Rasaq Adio Ogunsanya,  thanked the Odofin of the town, noting that, his tenure had been favourable to them.

Chief Ogunsanya stated that, since the arrival of Ikanna people in Abeokuta in 1840, it had been the only town, that had no link road in and out of the place.
