Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has affirmed that his administration is committed to financial management system that is based on international best practices for effective service delivery.

Prince Abiodun stated this at the 14th Western Zonal Accountants’ Conference, held at Ilaro, with the theme, “Professional Accountants: Catalysts for Business Strategy and Economic Development”, noting that professional accountants who can use financial data and information to draw meaningful inferences and act as consultants and advisers to executives were required both in the private and public sectors.

The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan, pointed out that his administration was fully aligned with the goals and aspirations of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), which is encapsulated in its motto, Accuracy and Integrity, affirmed that one of the visions of his administration was to provide focused and qualitative governance, which had propelled some of government’s initiatives.

He highlighted some of the initiatives put in place by his administration to include; the establishment of Bureau of Public Procurement, Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Bureau of Statistics and Public Private Partnership office, assuring that his administration would continue to support ICAN, while looking forward to valuable recommendations from the conference.

Delivering the keynote address at the Conference, the ICAN President, Mazi Nnamdi Okwuadigbo, said the body was elated to have the Governor at the event, noting that the group was striving to bridge the skill gap, as accountants are no longer appendages but critical stakeholders at formulating workable business initiatives.

He said accountants, being highly sought after in international accounting standard implementation, needed regular re-orientation and capacity development, adding that the body was committed to robust financial management with government, as it is noteworthy that its financial assessment exercise now covers the 774 Local Governments in Nigeria.
