The immediate past President of Abeokuta Sports Club, Deacon Atilade Bolarinwa, has been speaking of the values which his team added to the running of the Abeokuta Sports Club during his tenure.
In an interview with Newsflagship, Deacon Bolarinwa Atilade disclosed that, the greatest legacy achievement of his administration in the Club were the Electoral Reforms which enabled his team to take giant strides for the growth and development of the Great Club.
Deacon Bolarinwa explained that, in the Club’s Constitution, there was only one page on election, adding that, with the reforms put in the Constitution, they were able to put a lot of things that used to be unwritten, conntrovertial or adhoc law, into proper shape in the written Constitution as far as election is concerned.
He said, “I thank God for gift of men that were there for me. That is, starting from the Executive Committee members.
“We were able to put Electoral Reforms in place.
“In my own estimation, the Electoral Reforms and the Constitution Review were a very big and a great legacy for the Club.
“One of the things troubling us in this Country is the way we choose our leaders. It is very difficult for credible leaders to emerge. In some cases, it was either the thugs, criminals, or at best non committed people, that our system would be encouraging. The existence of especially “god-fatherism,” usually threw up selfish and power hungry individuals on the seat of leadership.
“The Electoral Reforms and the Constitutional Review that we had put in place, would help us to ensure that we always have credible people at the helm of affairs.”
Deacon Bolarinwa also stated that his administration was able to induct new Vice Patrons and for the first time in the history of the Abeokuta Sports Club.
He further explained, “Due to the Constitution Amendment, we created the post of Patrons. In the past, we had Alake of Egbaland as our Life Patron, the Governor of Ogun State as our Grand Patron, we had our Obas in Abeokuta, the Olowu, Osile, Agura, and Olu-Ibara as Vice Patrons. They included other eminent persons in and out of the Club. We didn’t have Patrons. With the benefit of Constitution Review, the position of Patrons was created and we were able to induct two eminent persons as pioneer Patrons for the Club. “They were Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Sir Kesington Adebutu. They were the first set of Patrons and were inducted May, 14, 2021.”
“It is a great legacy for the Club when you have those two people as our Patrons.
He said the Club also improved our relationships with other Clubs adding that members would testify and confirm that this was a great innovation and the Club had never had it so good, as we reached out to other Clubs, especially in Lagos, Ijebu-Ode, and Ibadan.
