Owu Empowerment Foundation Equips Over 200 Egbas in Entrepreneurship, ICT Skills, Others


An Egba non profit organisation known as Owu Empowerment Foundation (OEF), has empowered more than 200 Egba indigenes with Entrepreneurship training, ICT skills acquisition, driving lessons, and others.

This was in line with the Foundation’s stated aims and objectives during the 2021 Empowerment Programme on Friday, 3rd of September, 2021, at the Olowu Palace, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Speaking at the event, Chief OgoOluwa Bankole, the Chairman Management Committee and Co-ordinator of OEF, said the programme was very unique its all inclusive vision, adding that the beneficiaries cut across all areas of Egbaland.

Chief Bankole added that the Foundation was very transparent in its selection and goal oriented.

The coordinator further illustrated the Foundation’s desire to empower people, using the logo as an example.

The Coordinator General of the OEF said the elderly people at the top should be willing to assist the needy who are willing to be assisted.

Chief Bankole also revealed that the Foundation had set aside 2.4 million naira to support the people.

He also thanked the Olowu of Owu, Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu, the Amororo II, for giving them the privilege to carry out their exercises in the Palace, which included having their Secretariat there.

Chief Bankole, who is also the Gbogbogbo of Ibogun, said the Olowu was the first to give the Foundation 1 Million naira.

According to him, the Council of Owu Chiefs also donated 3.1 Million naira which was from the Odun Omo Olowu Celebration.

He disclosed that the beneficiaries of the Empowerment Programme who took interest in ICT skill acquisition would be trained freely for 2 months with a monthly allowance of of Ten Thousand Naira stipend for each trainee.

He added that at the end of the 2 months training, each student would be given a laptop worth one hundred Thousand naira each.

Chief Bankole also said those who took interest in driving programme, would would be issued a license on completion of their training.

Gbogbogbo I revealed that the Foundation still needed some people to donate more laptops for the ICT students.

The Chairman of the OEF, Chief (Dr) Banji Oyegbami, pledged donation of 200 thousand Naira for two of the laptops.

In his address, the OEF Chairman said the Foundation would be a continuum.

Dr. Banji Oyegbami therefore urged all beneficiaries to use whatever they gained for the development of themselves and Owu Kingdom.

The Olowu of Owu, Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu, speaking through his wife, Olori Olabosun Dosunmu, appreciated the Foundation for their aims and objectives towards the greater development of Owu Kingdom.

Olori Dosunmu said Owu indigenes were well known for always supporting one another.

She prayed that God would continue to strengthen the Foundation and all beneficiaries would not regret being part of the scheme.

She further stated that people should be aware of the need to be fully ICT compliant in this technological age, no matter one’s age.

Olori Dosunmu however urged that people should also endeavour to task their brain despite the ease of work with technology.

Other Sectional Monarchs present at the occasion included Oba Tepede, Onikoka of Ikoka; Oba Osungboye, Olu of Oshungboye Ibogun; Oba Wasiu Ogunrinola, Oni Tinrin of Tinrin, Ifo; Oba Olasode Olalekan Olaonipekun, Alapomu of Apomu; Oba Thomas A. Odekunle, Olu of Lapeleke.
