The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy Governorship candidate in Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdusalam has accused the All Progressive Party Congress on Wednesday of violating the recently signed peace accord.
The peace accord which was signed by all the political parties in the state was meant to curb political violence during political rallies in the state.
He alleged that Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje-led All Progressives Party Congress are deliberately breaking the peace accord, initiated for the conduct of peaceful political rallies in the State.
Abdulsalam said the ruling party has created fear and uncertainty in the State with their method of holding political rallies.
However, the ruling government has accused the Kwankwasiyya Group of raising false alarm in its attempt to divert attention and wash its hands off the group’s widely publicized attacks on residents, during its political rally in Kano Municipal and Tarauni local government areas.
In a statement, signed by the Commissioner for Information, Youth and Culture, Malam Muhammad Garba, and made available to newsmen, it was stated that the Kwankwasiyya is seriously troubled by reports in radio and newspapers of how its members were brandishing dangerous weapons.
“We have resisted the temptation to dismiss these false alarm, as mere distraction, common during electioneering. However, we are mindful of this deliberate plot by the group to instill fear in the minds of residents by unleashing violence on the state and portray the APC in a bad light’’.
The Information Commissioner, said, the APC is appalled that there seemed to be a deliberate attempt by the opposition group, having got a whiff of defeat at the polls, to resort to the use of thuggery, as part of a calculated attempt to scuttle the 2019 elections.
“It is really unfortunate that the group has resorted to violence. They do not want the peaceful political atmosphere that has been entrenched by the present government in Kano state, because we allow the opposition to thrive, and we don’t go against anybody. Our campaigns are based on issues,’’
lso Garba, pointed out that the APC is irrevocably committed to peaceful electioneering campaign, believing it is the acceptable route to secure a brighter future for the people not by attacking them.
Furthermore, the statement urged security agents to ensure strict compliance, with the peace accord signed by all party’s candidates in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.
Responding, Abdulsalam said, “What transpired in Rano, Bichi and Ganduje towns, during the recent political gatherings, was a typical example, whereby lives were reportedly lost and scores of casualties recorded, and no one was arrested, it is a clear manifestation that APC is encouraging thuggery, among gullible youth,” he alleged.
He added, “The kind of inhospitable reception received by APC during their recent rally in Ajingi, were their thugs allegedly went on rampage, inciting fears by brandishing weapons, defacing PDP billboards and posters, while on their way to Kano, and nothing has been done by the security operatives to prevent further recurrence” he alleged.
Comrade Aminu Abdussalam however, urged law enforcement agents to be neutral discharge their statutory duties, in accordance with law.
