PDP Recommends Senator Danjuma As The Senate’s Next Deputy Minority Whip.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), nominated Senator Danjuma La’ah (Kaduna South) to be the Senate’s next Deputy Minority Whip on Wednesday.

The nomination of La’ah was contained in a letter submitted to Senate President Ahmad Lawan, which was read at the commencement of the plenary.

In a letter signed by the PDP’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyawu, stated that, Senator La’ah’s nomination was made in light of the recent defection of the previous Minority Whip, Senator Ibrahim Abdullahi Danbaba (Sokoto South), to the majority All Progressives Congress (APC).

The letter also affirmed the nomination of Senator Danjuma La’ah (Kaduna South) by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Senate Caucus, to fill the vacant seat of the Senate Minority Whip.

Senator George Thompson Sekibo (PDP, Rivers East), while coming under Order 1(b) lamented the defection of the PDP Senator, who occupy the Deputy Whip position.

Two Senators – Senators Emmanuel Bwacha and Ibrahim Danbaba – both of the opposition party and La’ah’s predecessors, who resigned their membership and defected to the APC.

Ruling on Sekibo’s point of order, the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, ruled him out of order, stating that, his observation was not in line with the provisions of Order 1(b) of the Senate Standing Orders, 2022 as amended.

He therefore urged the new Deputy Minority Whip to perform his functions to bring about stability and productivity to the Senate.
