Police Foil Robbery Attack In Ogun, Shot One Dead

ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State Police command yesterday, foiled a robbery attack on a luxury bus belonging to Young Shall Grow Motors along Sagamu-Benin expressway.

According to the spokesman of the State Police command, PPRO Abimbola Oyeyemi, men of the Quick Response Squad from Ogbere divisional headquarters led by the DPO, SP John Okon, stormed the scene upon a distress call and engaged the bandits in a gun duel which lasted for about 30minutes.

DSP Oyeyemi noted that, one of the armed robbers was shot dead, while others escaped through nearby bush.

“While the operation was going on, a distress call was made to the police at Ogbere Divisional headquarters; consequent upon which the DPO, SP John Okon, led his anti-robbery men to the scene where they engaged the bandits in a gun duel which lasted for about 30 minutes. At the end of the encounter, one of the suspects was shot dead while others escaped into the nearby bush.

“The suspect was a member of the robbery gang that blocked the express road in an attempt to rob a luxury bus belonging to Young shall Grow motors.

“Recovered from the deceased robber are a locally made long barrel gun, a toy pistol and charms.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, who expressed satisfaction over the performance of his men, has ordered a serious manhunt for other members of the gang with a view of bringing them to justice.

He further assured members of the public that their security is guaranteed all the time.
