The House of Representatives, on Thursday, urged the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), and other sister agencies meant to handle emergencies to immediately provide material support for victims of gas explosions in the Mushin area of Lagos.
The lawmakers pointed out that, on Tuesday, 16th of November, 2021, at 8 am there was a massive explosion at Ladipo market, Mushin, caused by a gas explosion from a mechanic workshop within the market.
The resolution followed a motion brought under matters of urgent public importance by Hon. Balaji Ayinla represents Mushin II Federal Constituency of Lagos.
Raising the motion, Hon. Ayinla explained that at least five persons were burnt to death, many sustained injuries, vehicles of different brands were destroyed and buildings were badly affected when the explosion occurred.
According to him, security operatives and emergency responders have cordoned off the area as rescue operations and on the spot assessment has continued.
“The affected persons will need the support of the government agencies meant to handle emergencies”
“There is need to urge National Emergency Management Authority and other agencies meant to handle emergencies in Lagos state to act swiftly by providing material support to the victims of the gas explosion in Mushin”, he said.
