The Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC Southwest today organized the first Southwest Security Summit to sensitize all stakeholders on security issues concerning the forthcoming general elections next month

The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Adeoluwa Taiwo, in his open remarks said governor Amosun had a lot of respect for the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC.

 Senator Ibikunle Amosun further said that the PCRC and the Ogun State Government are one both in spirit and operations.

He commended the Southwest PCRC for its good initiative because the State attached a lot of importance to Security before and after the coming Election.

Ogun State Governor said the State was very proud of the State PCRC for its cooperation because Government alone could not carry out all necessary Security job of the State.

Governor Amosun recalled that before coming on, the State was under siege by criminals and his delighted that his Government works in collaboration with the Police

He disclosed that another 20 Armored Personnel Carriers, 300 mounted Security vehicles and other equipment had been procured for the Police and this had enhanced their operations.

He further Ogun State Government was very proud of the activities of the PCRC and that was why it donated a Bus to the State Branch.

Amosun commended Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu for fully cooperating with Ogun in securing Ogun State.

The governor happily recalled that Election had generally been peaceful in the State and certain that the Ogun State Government would cooperate with Election Officers and Observers.

He however pleaded with Electoral Umpires and Observers not to allow themselves to be compromised during the forthcoming general Elections

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Musiliu Smith said everybody should be an active stakeholder in the Security of the State.

 He praised Ogun State Government for its support for PCRC and procurement of APC for the State Police which according to him, made the job of the Police, easier.

He urged other States to emulate Ogun for committed support for security agencies and other stakeholders.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, said that sustainable peace was the goal of the Police and PCRC and Ogun State Government were active partners.

Alhaji IIiyasu explained that, with the two other committed partners, the State Police Command would provide robust security cover for all and  would prevent inter and intra political parties breaches of the peace.

He warned that the Police would not tolerate any form of thuggery and skirmishes, hate speeches and false information, adding that the Police would also provide Security for normal campaigns for all political parties and groups.

He advised that religious leader, parents and other groups to warn their children and wards not to allow themselves to be used for thuggery or any form of violation of Electoral process

He pleaded with all stakeholders to ensure all Electoral laws and regulations were respected in and around polling stations.

While confirming that Ogun State was one of the most peaceful States, he said he would not tolerate any attempt to injure the peace and harmony of the State.

The PCRC decorated Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun for his dedication and commitment to the cause of peace and security in the State.

Among those present were the PCRC Chairman, Alhaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, PCRC National Vice Chairman-Mogaji Olaniyan, the Chief Imam of Egbaland, Sheikh Orunsolu, Human Rights Activitist, Dr. Okei Joe-Odumakin and the representative of the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Aare Baaroyin Layi Labode.
