Suspension of the National Sports Festival tagged Edo 2020

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the suspension of the National Sports Festival, tagged Edo 2020.

Minister of Sports and Youths Development, Mr Sunday Dare, announced this to State House Correspondents after a meeting with President Buhari.

Dare, who met the President along the Minister of State for Health, Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora, explained that the suspension was necessitated by the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

He said over 11,000 athletes were expected to participate in the 20th sports festival, noting that it was safer to be on the side of caution than take the risk of proceeding with the event.

Meanwhile the government is also considering the suspension of religious gathering and flights from high risk countries.
