The Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, the Baaloye of Egbaland, Visits Alake; Says He Is In Town To Celebrate With Ogun State PDP Guber Aspirant, Oladipupo Adebutu At 60.


Former Nigeria Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar paid what he described as “a Normal Courtesy Visit to a Royal Father and Mentor,” to the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo.

In his speech at the Ake Palace on Saturday, 26th of February, 2022, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku disclosed that, although he had primarily come to celebrate with Honourable Oladipupo Adebutu on the latter’s 60th Birthday Anniversary, his age long link with the Alake and the Egbas, made it a normal routine to formally pay homage to Alake before proceeding to any other engagement in the city.

The Former Vice President noted that, anytime he visited Abeokuta, he always felt at home and a sense of hospitality.

According to him, he married his first wife, when serving as a Custom Officer in Ogun State.

He added that he could not forget Egbaland adding that Abeokuta was his second home

He further disclosed that, his relationship with Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who out of nowhere, nominated him to be his Vice President, was very good

Speaking on his political career, he reiterated that, he had enjoyed and interacted with Egba Prominent men and women as well as in other parts of the country.

The Former Vice President thanked the Egba Apex Monarch for honouring and accepting him into the Ancient Palace at a very short notice adding that it was a privilege.

He assured the Alake of his continued loyalty to Egbaland, reiterating that, he would always cherish all Egba traditional institutions.

He wished the Alake long and successful reign in Egbaland.

In his response, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo appreciated the Former Vice President of Nigeria for his courtesy visit to the Ancient Palace..

The Egba Apex Monarch confirmed that, Atiku would always be welcomed in Abeokuta,  adding that, he had  spent his youthful days in Ogun State and was very close to Abeokuta.

Oba Gbadebo recalled that, when the Former Vice President was conferred on with Baaloye  of Egbaland by Oba Lipede in 2002, it was because of his activities towards humanity.

The Alake also urged him to continue to project greater development for Ogun State, Nigeria and Egbaland and to also be a good role model to all Nigerians

Newsflagship noted that the former Nigeria’s Vice President, did not directly or indirectly mention anything about his much publicised political ambition to be the next President of Nigeria in 2023, during his speech at the Ake Palace.
