ABEOKUTA – Coalition of Civil Society, an umbrella body for over sixty civil society, Pro democracy and human organisations in Ogun State has condemned the call for a special security intervention in the state over an alleged insecurity and political violence ahead of the forthcoming general election in the state.
The Chairman of the Coalition in the state, Comrade Folarin Olayinka who spoke at a press conference held in Abeokuta on Tuesday warned political gladiators in the state to play by the rules of the game.
Folarin said the state remains relatively stable and peaceful, saying that the call for security intervention by some politicians in the state is capable of creating political aparthy.
NEWS FLAGSHIP recalls that, the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had on Sunday petitioned the Inspector General of Police to probe the attack on its supporters and governorship candidate in the state.
But the civil society chairman claimed the state is peaceful for a call for security intervention by the presidency in the state.
He therefore warned politicians to desist from conduct capable of causing voters apathy and breach of public peace, disunity under the guise of insecurity in the state.
Folarin who doubles as CDHR National Secretary noted that, the call for security intervention from the presidency would open door for rigging, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari and Inspector General of Police to disregard the call for security intervention in the state, describing it as “unnecessary”.
“To straighten the records and condemn the barbaric and untrue publication by some characters and suspected political jobbers in the letter titled “Letter to President Buhari: Save Our Souls in Ogun State”. The publication has revealed the writers were ill-informed acclaimed civil rights crusaders who suspiciously have traded the truth and fairness for whatever cost.
“We therefore resolve to put records straight and state categorically that, we unanimously condemned the false alarms and claims over high rising of insecurity in Ogun State. That is nothing farther from the truth with a spurious aim of condemning the uncompromising, productive, reliable and responsive efforts of the command to one of its core mandate of securing lives and property of the people.
“Ogun State over the years has been rated the most peaceful state and the first state in ease of doing business in Nigeria. We therefore, imagine why this ill-informed writers and suspected political mercenaries and strange characters decided to demarket Ogun State “, Folarin further said.
