Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun says the Town Hall Meeting has provided a unique opportunity to initiate developmental projects that would have direct positive impact on the people.
The Governor stated this at June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, venue of the Ogun Central Town Hall Meeting, held to harness the inputs of the people of the State in preparation of the 2020 Budget and Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) 2020-2022.
Abiodun, while appreciating the people for their huge participation and inputs said their contributions had validated his position that the process would facilitate participatory democracy for an all-inclusive governance, assuring of even distribution of democratic dividends to all parts of the State.
He informed that all inherited projects that would have direct positive impact on the people would not be abandoned, noting that the submissions of the people in the course of the meetings would complement the strategic allocation of the State resources for optimal impact on the populace.
Responding to various demands and inputs of the people from the District, Abiodun pledged that his administration would prioritize their numerous demands and challenges towards providing succour to the people.
Consultant to the Governor on Budget and Planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan, earlier in his welcome address, said one of the essentials of good governance was a world class public financial management system, which entails engaging the citizens and feeling their pulse, in order to draw up a true peoples budget and expenditure framework that would answer to the yearnings of the populace.
In his goodwill message, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Oludotun Aremu Gbadebo, advised indigenes to take advantage of Anchor Borrowers’ programme, initiated by the present government, which he said would help in tackling the high rate of unemployment in the State.
Representing Abeokuta South Local Government Area, Engr. Kunle Adesina commended the present administration on the commencement of palliative measure on bad roads, urging it to improve the State’s macro economy by patronizing local traders and marketers in sourcing materials for government projects.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and Planning, Mr. Hassan Adekunle, appreciated government and members of the public for their inputs, noting that, the contributions and opinions of the people would assist government make better plans for the future of the State.
On his part, Dr. Femi Majekodunmi from Abeokuta South, appreciated the Governor on various empowerment programmes organized for traders across the State, appealing to government to give priority to provision of potable water in the capital, as well as construction of good road networks.
Also Hon. Ganiu Amusat, representing Ewekoro Local Government Area solicited government’s support for the rehabilitation of Itori General Hospital, saying, ‘’the hospital is structurally defective’’.
Furthermore, the Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Ogun State, Comrade Emmanuel Bankole said government should constitute a Committee to interface with Labour on the implementation of the 30,000 minimum wage.
