As part of efforts to disseminate effective information to further enlighten mothers on proper child health care, Ogun State Government has reiterated its commitment for continued support on activities and programmes of development partners on health.
The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Waheed Odusile gave the assurance while playing host to a team from the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), Akure branch, in his office at Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta.
Odusile said UNICEF had contributed immensely to several achievements recorded in the health sector of the State, through its campaigns on key household practices such as immunisation, breast feeding, hand washing, among others, which he said have improved the healthy lifestyle of mothers, children and families.
He noted that the agency’s radio programme tagged ‘Fact for Life’ just produced, would create more awareness on the goals of UNICEF, assuring that the Ministry would give deserved attention to it.
Contributing, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Alhaji Abiodun Awere commended the initiative and role of UNICEF, at ensuring healthy wellbeing of mothers and children, saying the radio programme would have positive impacts in their lives.
In his remarks, the UNICEF Focal Person and Director Planning, Research and Statistics in the Ministry, Mr. Lanre Ogunyinka said UNICEF activities in the State have been giving adequate support, particularly from the Ministry, affirming that the newly appointed Commissioner in the Ministry and other management staff would not relent in projecting the agency’s programmes.
Earlier in her address, UNICEF Consultant, Mrs. Caroline Akosile hinted that the radio programme was produced to encourage mothers on exclusive breast feeding, importance of immunisation, dangers of open defecation, among others, adding that the programme has helped in enlightening the targeted audience
