The Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Arch-Bishop Nicholas Okoh has given reasons why Anglican Communion Churches in Nigeria stopped sending their Priests to Britain for further studies.

Primate Nicolas Okoh, who also the Chancellor of Crowther Graduate Seminary, Abeokuta, disclosed that the leadership of the Church in Nigeria had noted with dismay that the Gay Issue being condoned in Britain had raised moral and cultural questions in the Nigerian congregation.

The Primate recalled that the then Head of the Church of Nigeria, retired Primate Baba Akinola and the entire leadership in 2007, concluded that it was no longer safe for their Priests to go to Britain for further study because homosexuality was not condemned officially by the Anglican Church in British.

He explained that, that was why Baba Jasper Akinola and the leadership of the Church decided to train Priests in Nigeria, Singapore, South Africa and the Americas.

Arch Bishop Okoh also said that GASCON which was established in Entebbe, Uganda, had decided that from April 2019, the leadership GASCON would change to enhance the knowledge and welfare of Christians.

He noted that the country was in a difficult state and needed a lot of both actions and prayers.

He advised Christians be active in politics while totally avoiding politics of hate and theft of the nation’s common wealth, adding that they should be involved in guiding their people on how to vote and be voted for.

He announced that Theological Colleges had sent proposals to the authorities and their request were being looked into.

Primate Okoh recalled that Bishop Ajayi Crowther worked in Bonny and other Niger Delta areas selflessly.

Rather he would want young Priests to emulate Ajayi Crowther’s altruism and should stop complaining about postings, allowances, promotions and so on.

While asking them to respect other faiths, Nicholas Okoh told the grandaunts that they should know their own religion very well first and thereafter be tolerant of other people’s beliefs.

He told them that their certificates were not enough, but they should “proclaim Christ faithfully to the nation.

Among the Graduands at the Convocation was Bishop Emmanuel Oludaisi Adekunle, the Bishop of Egba Diocese, who bagged PhD in Divinity.

The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba AdedotunGbadebo was represented at the occasion by the Aare Baaroyin of Egbaland, OlootuLayiLabode
