Governor of River State, Barrister Nyesom Wike decorated the music icon with the second highest honour of the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State (DSSRS)”.
Besides, Governor Wile also announced the gift of land and cash backing for star to build a house of his taste in the choice area of the state.
Burma Boy is been appreciated by state for an award as the Best Global Music Album with his “Twice As Tall” album at the 63rd Grammy Awards.
Speaking at the ceremony, Wike told yhe Grammy Award winner, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, during a grand reception organised by the Rivers State government at the weekend explained that the recognition was a show of gratitude publicly to indigenes of Rivers State that have demonstrated an outstanding talent with their works and stand out head and shoulders above others in their professional callings.
The governor, who described the homecoming reception for Burna Boy, an indigene of Ahoada West Local Government Area of the state said, “Rivers State government will provide land at Old GRA for Burna Boy. Not only are we to provide that, but we are also going to give him money to build for himself. We are going to do that for him to encourage others.
“We are happy with you (Burna Boy), we are happy with your parents for what they have done.”
